Application Process

To apply to the CU in D.C. Program, choose the appropriate application below and follow the instructions.  *There are three application types: Standard-Track A&S students, Media-Track CMCI students, and Science Policy Maymester students.

Application for Standard-Track A&S students (fall/spring/summer)

Open up the CU in D.C. Application Packet and save it to your computer.

  • Print out and distribute the recommendation forms that are included in the application packet to two reference providers.  Ask the respondents to fill out the forms and return them to you in sealed envelopes (the recommendations are confidential).
  • Fill out the application by typing your responses into the form fields (you can attach additional pages if necessary).  Print the application after you have completed your responses.  Create a copy for your records.
  • Include a resume with your application.
  • Include an unofficial transcript with your application.
  • Submit the completed application, two sealed recommendations, a resume, and an unofficial transcript to the CU in D.C. office.  Submit these documents in hard-copy and as a whole packet.  Your application packet should be submitted to:

Serena Leland, Program Director
1416 Broadway, Room 2 (next to Starbucks)
271 UCB, Boulder, Colorado 80309

If you are applying from a distance, you may submit your application electronically and your recommendation providers can submit recommendations electronically to serena.leland@colorado.edu (but the references must come directly from the provider).  We prefer to receive complete application packets through one submission method, so only use the electronic option if it is necessary.

  • The CU in D.C. team will review your application packet and will notify you about whether you will be considered further for program selection.  If you are a suitable candidate, you will then be invited for an in-person interview.
  • You will come in for an in-person interview with the CU in D.C. team.
  • After your interview, the program will notify you about whether you have been selected to participate in the program.
  • If you are selected for the program, you will then be instructed about how to proceed with the program enrollment process.
  • If you have not already begun an internship search, you should begin searching for an internship placement and applying for internships.  Please be aware that the internship application process is separate from, and in addition to, the CU in D.C. application process.  We suggest that you begin researching internship possibilities and submitting applications to internship programs well in advance- even before you are formally accepted into the CU in D.C. Program.  It is never too early to start applying to internships!  See the Internship Experience section of our website for more information.
